SHREDDED PAPER PAINTINGS
MEDITATION PAINTINGS
I began doing these meditation paintings after my daily meditation as a creative exercise to access my authentic self and artistic voice. Instead of writing morning pages, I wanted to do something which spoke more directly to me as a visual person. So, I began making these 9 x 9 inch gouache, graphite, colored pencil, and sometimes mixed media paintings.
I cherish these pieces and hope they bring you joy!

SHREDDED PAPER PAINTINGS
Cutting highly sensitive personal documents into unreadable shreds, I am able to remove traces of myself from the world. This information that coheres to represent me — such as birthdate, social security number, banking and other financial data — is rendered moot. Identity thieves are thwarted.
Through their destruction, these documents become the raw material of my art. I reorganize and categorize the strips into patterns, shapes, and designs. In building my art, I make order out of chaos, transform the private into the public, and make sense out of what might otherwise seem random.
This process, to me, is similar to how we edit and navigate our lives.
BLACK AND WHITE WORKS ON PAPER
Inspired by nature, I explore the metaphysical connections between a specific location and a particular moment in time when the light and ambience of the surroundings touch me. These are remembered moments distilled into an abstract language of colors, shapes, energy, rhythm and mood. I work until the right moment is released and I have achieved the desired effect—sometimes in quick strokes and at other times by adding paint and wiping it off, pushing and pulling my materials. These processes evolve during the course of many sessions, as the poetry of rhythm and form unfolds, moving across the canvas or paper in the same way music improvised by a jazz musician progresses.
I compose spontaneously, capturing the luminosity of light with my color choices and amplifying movement and energy with aggressive mark making. The fluid shapes I make with my brush are often juxtaposed against crisp lines I make with graphite or charcoal. Like the Abstract Expressionists of the New York School, my art is process driven. The plasticity and immediacy of the paint drive my expression and capture the unconscious..
